Treasury Announces Upcoming Departure of Deputy Treasurer Cathy Brennan

(TRENTON) – The NJ Treasury Department announced today that Deputy State Treasurer Catherine Z. Brennan will be departing the Treasurer's Office on September 17, after 27 years of service to the State of New Jersey, to assume the new role of Senior Vice President /Chief Financial Officer for New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).

"The State of New Jersey has been well served by Cathy Brennan during her 27 years of public service. I have greatly appreciated her partnership here in Treasury over the past several years, especially as we confronted the unprecedented challenges brought on by the pandemic," said State Treasurer Elizabeth Maher Muoio. "She has played an integral role in the development and implementation of our state budget, and her commitment and work ethic are second to none. On behalf of the entire Treasury Department, I wish her the very best in her new role."

Brennan has served in the role of Deputy State Treasurer since February of 2018, joining the department shortly after Governor Murphy took office. As Deputy Treasurer, she oversaw the Office of Management and Budget as well as the Office of Revenue and Economic Analysis, both of which are integral to the preparation and management of the State budget. Among her many duties, she also served as the Treasurer's designee to the NJ Economic Development Authority, the Statehouse Commission, and the Capital Budget and Planning Commission.

"It has been the privilege of my career to serve as Deputy State Treasurer in the Administration of Governor Phil Murphy and the Office of the State Treasurer," said Deputy Treasurer Catherine Brennan. "Treasurer Muoio has been a role model in her support of advancing women's careers, and I will be forever grateful for the trust she placed in me almost four years ago in providing me with the opportunity to serve as a member of her senior leadership team. I am also enormously appreciative of my many Treasury colleagues and am proud of all that we accomplished together, particularly in navigating the unprecedented and novel challenges precipitated by the COVID-19 pandemic. My colleagues in Treasury are second to none in their dedication and I will miss working with each and every one of them, even as I look forward to, and am excited about, my new role at NJIT."

Prior to joining Treasury, Brennan spent almost 25 years working on revenue and finance matters for the non-partisan Office of Legislative Services (OLS). During her tenure with OLS, she served eight years as committee aide to the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee and later went on to serve as Chief of the Revenue, Finance and Appropriations Section.
